Great basics - Green corduroys

1 September 2008, 12:29

I’m in rather desperate need of trousers for my Fall/Winter wardrobe, and so I naturally turned to Burda WOF 08/2006 #109. You may remember that this is essentially my favourite trouser pattern ever – I’ve made it as jeans (twice!), in brown twill, and even in red corduroy. The fit is perfect for me, and it serves as the backbone of my wardrobe when I just need some nice, wearable trousers and don’t feel the need to be particularly challenged by a new pattern. As much as I love trying new patterns and techniques, sometimes you just need something reliable that you know is definitely going to work.

The green corduroy was bought at A One Fabrics on Goldhawk Road for £3.50 a metre when I was there with Anwen a couple weeks ago. It’s really nice quality stuff – very soft to touch and feels almost flannel-like inside. I always like to use a fun, contrasting fabric for my pocket linings, so this time I used the last scraps of Dogs Playing Poker cotton, which never fails to make me smile.

I finished these with seconds to spare before work on Friday and wore them on and off all weekend in Norwich while we were there for the wedding. By the time these photos were taken (in our hotel room!) I’d already worn them to the pre-wedding champagne breakfast with the groom, so you’ll have to forgive some of the wrinkles from wear. I’ve got some great shots of me in the silver dress and fascinator on the bouncy castle at the reception I’ll have to show you later. Also coming up on the site later this week is the February Burda twist dress!

  1. Hi, I am in the same case as you, I need a pair of wearable trousers but I never managed to make some because I need to grade patterns at the hips level (larger than standard patterns unfortunately). I saw your pants and may try this Burda model, I just need to check if I have the 08/2006 magazine:)
