Patrones 270 preview and 269 competition
25 July 2008, 12:39I’ve had another bit of good luck from the kindness of Patrones-enabled strangers! After borrowing so many issues from my lovely Patrones benefactor and sending James’s parents off to search for me on their holidays, Madrid local Cintia has very kindly offered to send me some issues as they come out! So with very special thanks to her, I can now show you some of my highlights from Patrones 270!
See the thumbnails of everything in #270 here (image opens in new window). I personally get a lot more information from technical drawings rather than photos, but unlike the other pattern magazines, Patrones doesn’t do a collection of tech drawings that’s easy to scan, so these thumbnails are the next best thing!
This is the summer issue, but I really love the skirt in the photo above – the pockets are the real feature here – they look big enough to pack my lunch in! The photography here reminds me more of English summers than Spanish, though!
The navy blue blouse above is like an updated “Kriss Kross” top – it’s got a button down in the centre back and a nice band in the front which would make this ideal for summer suit jackets. I can really see this in a beautifully draping silk crepe under a linen suit…
Now, I am not a shorts person in the slightest (give me dresses and skirts all summer long!), but I really like the design of these. The V-shaped buttoned yoke is just too cute, though I have a feeling the pleats underneath it wouldn’t look too good on me, unfortunately!
The green Missoni skirt on the right above is just lovely – I’m not sure if you can see it in the photo, but the curved seam lines look like they’d be really flattering. This is something that would work just as well in a light cotton (like recycled bedsheets?) for a casual look as it does in the silk satin used here.
One thing I find Patrones do really well are nice button-down blouses, and the white one on the right above is no exception. Beautiful bib detailing and great seam lines – it’d make such a stunning basic!
Win Patrones #269!
Since I’d have such good fortune in getting issue #270, I thought I’d share the wealth and give away my spare copy of Patrones #269 since James’s parents were able to get me two! You can see some of my favourites from this issue here (scroll down), and you can
see the thumbnails of everything in #269 here (image opens in new window) to see if it’s something you’d like… This issue is sizes 40-44-48, except for the last seven garments (marked “Tallas Grandes”), which are Plus sized (I think they’re 48-52-56 but I forgot to check). Patrones size charts are here, and my general explanation of what’s in the magazine is here.
To enter the competition, please leave a comment below saying which of the style in issue #269 is your favourite (ie: “3rd row down and 6 from the left”, etc). I’m happy to ship anywhere in the world as I know how difficult it is to find everywhere, but please only enter if you’re going to use it yourself (and not just resell it on eBay or something!). I’ll pick the winner by random number on August 1st and notify them by email.
Good luck!
Thank you to everyone who’s entered! The competition is now closed. Congrats to Julia!!

I’m a little torn— 2 rows down/2 from the right looks like a really versatile, wearable blouse, but I like the funky ruffle detail. But I also really like the dress that’s 3 down/4 from the left.
I’ve really enjoyed reading your reviews of these patterns too, btw, even though I don’t comment much.

Oh there’s quite a few there that I really like – but if I have to pick a favourite, it’d be the white dress on the third row…
I found your website by accident, and I really admire your work! Never thought about using material from bedsheets and etc to make clothes… genius :D

I think the number is 35 that I really like. It is the full page dress with the button down front. Soooo adorable. I want to make that dress immediately. I think the name was hennes and mauritz?
— Amber Jul 25, 02:09 PM #
The polkadot dress (4th from the right on the second row)really jumps out, but I’d have to see the technical drawing to see if it would work for me. If yes, I’d organise a party to show that one off!
— Houkje Jul 25, 02:19 PM #
I love the one you commented on earlier— the cocktail dress with the twist in the front— but my skills aren’t quite there yet, so I would make the one next to it. A big long maxi dress in some kind of polka dot or stripe! Or I have this Hawaiian floral I was going to use on a 50s style halter dress, but it would look great in the maxi dress. (Except “maxi dress” sounds like feminine products… not sure what name would be better. Uberdress? Ultidress?)

The dress on the far right, second row down… the pictures looked quite fuzzy on my computer, but this looked like an interesting neckline variation and summery in a bright modern floral of some sort.
Love your blog – makes me want to race home and get sewing, especially when I get stuck on something!

Wow a Patrones!!!! You are so generous to share! They have such lovely designs.
My favorite was hard to choose but I love the detailing of the black V neck shirt (2rd row down and 8 from the left). The detailing at teh neck looks so great.
Thanks for sharing with us

I’m not entering, but I wnated to tell you how awesome it is that you’re giving one away.
— cidell Jul 25, 04:20 PM #
Oooooh fun! I love the dresses that are three down, far right but where would I wear it? My favorite practical one is the first row, third to the right. It’s a cute tank top.
Thanks for sharing!
— dawn Jul 25, 05:07 PM #
wow you are so generous to give one away!! After sewing up a skirt muslin from one of my 2 copies I’m a little excited about the fit.
My favorite from 269 would be 3rd row down, 1st item. It’s a safari-style jacket but with a notched collar, so cool!!
— Leslie Jul 25, 05:22 PM #
I would have to say that the dress 3rd row, 5h from the right is my favorite, but I do love all the dresses! Thank you so much for being so generous & giving 1 away, it’s definitely something we don’t get here in South Africa!
— Clair Jul 25, 06:09 PM #
My absolute favorite is the white top at the far left of the Tallas Grandes. Love it, love it, love it.
Thank you so much for doing is, it is so generous of you (and fun for us).
— Mia Jul 25, 07:46 PM #
From what I can make out on the pictures, the Prada dress is deffinitely a winner. Last picture in the row before last. I would need to see the technical drawing before attempting to sew myself. It is deffinitely a stand out. The issue has a lot of lovely blouses too!!!
Thank you for the opportunity to win this issue!
— Karina Jul 25, 08:42 PM #
Oooh that pesky Patrones, i might have to consider moving to Spain. Love the white dress, bottom row, second in but something about all those shorts on the top row is sucking me in. How many pairs of shorts is too many?
— Lizzie Jul 25, 08:49 PM #
I can’t resist the lure of possibly winning a Patrones! LOL. As for my favorite, I’m partial to the polka dot dress (second row #7).
Thanks for sharing the thumbnails of the latest issue – I REALLY like this one. There’s a lot of great casual wear in this one…. now I’m haunting ebay for this issue!
— stacysews Jul 26, 03:59 AM #
Me gustan todos! But my favorite is the second row, third from right black blouse (also seen in second from right). Thank you for sharing!
— Daisy Jul 26, 04:38 AM #
I love the dress at the far right on the second row. It has a really nice shape. Thanks! -Janice
— Janice De Paula Jul 26, 05:13 AM #
I really like the blouse – first row, sixth from the left. It looks so breezy and comfortable for hot summer days!
— jujubee Jul 26, 08:51 AM #
I love the red dress, very cute!
— katie Jul 26, 04:16 PM #
I agree with jujubee on the blouse sixth from left in the first row – it really looks like the perfect airy piece for summer! I guess it’s also helped by the fact you showed a more detailed photo of this one in one of your previous posts. But I also like the dress Janice likes. It’s hard to choose from such a collection! And I shouldn’t forget to add it’s awesome of you to share the magazine, whoever gets it in the end!
The green skirt you pointed out in the latest issue is really lovely.
— Hana - Marmota Jul 26, 09:03 PM #
I think I love the entire right page! Out of the models on the right, however, my favorites are the long white dress with the square neck on the top row, second from the right and the taupe colored dress in the 3rd row, far right – the Prada, I believe?
— Rosanne Jul 26, 10:43 PM #
Oooh! I really like the dress at the right end of the second row, and if the second large sizes thing is a high waisted a line skirt then I like that also, but I can’t really tell (agree about the tech drawings being more helpful!) But I think the dress is my favourite.
— Anwen Jul 27, 10:24 AM #
I reallly like the crisp white dress 3rd row down, 1st picture from the left. Its been super hot here and making a new dress might help me keep my mind off the heat.
— Nicole Jul 27, 06:15 PM #
I would make so many of these but so far my favorite is the black top on the 2nd row, 2nd and 3rd images from the right. It seems so simple yet there are so many interesting details!
— Melinda Jul 27, 07:33 PM #
I’d like to make the next to last dress in the first row for my daughter — she lives in Miami Beach and I am in NY but I have a duct tape mannequin of her.
— Nan Jul 28, 12:38 AM #
I really like the first 6 outfits in the first row. They look comfortable, but chic. I’d love to win this. I’ve never seen a Patrones magazine and would love to make some of the garments.
— Arizona Jul 28, 05:07 AM #
I liked the simple white blouse – 6th in the first row. It’s simple and it might fit the expectant mother (who I am). Unfortunately the magazine is a rare thing to find in Russia…
— Julia Jul 28, 09:30 AM #
I like most of the outfits but the sundresses in the first and third rows catch my eye most especially #9 in the third row. I wish our bookstores would carry magazines like this here. Thanks for sharing!
— Kerri Jul 28, 05:09 PM #
I LOVE the wrap thingy going on in the dress second row from the bottom on the far right. It would be nice if Patrones did a line drawing collection like BWOF, but I will take Patrones’ editorial photos any day! They manage to be fashion-y and interesting while at the same time actually showing the garments. BWOF apparently didn’t get the memo with the “showing the garments” part. It drives me crazy!
— trena Jul 28, 11:58 PM #
I’m in love with most of the designs, but my favorite would have to be the blue dress- 3rd row, 6th from left. It’s stylish, but looks comfortable enough for everyday wear.
— Amy Jul 29, 05:55 AM #
I love the second row down, 8th from the right. All of these designs look so wearable! I purchased a Patrones from you on ebay (if you are twistedangel). You are the best!
— Barrie Jul 30, 03:53 PM #
I love the outfit on the top row, 4th from left. It is cute but functional, and as the mom of two kids under 2, I need that. I just found your blog and I am loving all the helpful info, ideas, inspiration, and photos! I have you bookmarked and can’t wait to see your next creations.
— marni Jul 30, 04:22 PM #
This is amazing!!!
My fave is the 7th dress from the 2nd row.
I love your creations and your blog, its very inspairing :)
— Liat Jul 30, 09:31 PM #
My favourite would have to be that polka dot dress. It’s like an updated version of Marilyn Monroe’s white dress
— Ali Jul 31, 04:12 PM #
Hi, I love the Prada beige dress in the third row on the far right. Looks simple, but quite elegant/stylish:-0 Fingers XX
